Drawing is the start of my process. First thing in the morning I send time finding my touch between nib and paper. These latest drawing are done with artist maker pens from Winsor & Newton. They look and feel like watercolour and help me to design my tonal compositions.

 The Light in Salcombe during October is so inspiring.The sun is lower in the sky for long giving the landscape sparkle and contrast. Ive been working in a warm palette to capture the light. I use Van Dyke Brown and Titanium White over a ground of Yellow ochre. The results are a warm light filled atmosphere of the sun reflecting off the estuary.  

This award is to travel on an Eco-shipping named Dolphine. I don't have all the details of the prize yet but watch this space for more details in the coming weeks.

I won the award by painting the Brixham Trawler Vigilance BM76. The ship is on the National Historic Register which records and works to celebrate ships that are over 100 years old. 

I captured the ship as it underwent a major restoration project at Sterling and Sons number 1 slipway in Plymouth. The yard its self is famous for being the oldest working covered slipway in the world.
